Time for a moment of honesty from all the parents: How far would you go to calm a fussy baby? Would you stick your child in a bucket of warm water if it worked? That's what some parents are willing to do these days.

It's called the Tummy Tub - a European invention that really surprised Amelia Wyant when she received it as a gift after the birth of her son Jack.

"We open it up. It's a large clear bucket. We didn't know what to do with it, "she said.

Little did she know, that clear bucket would become a God send. The Tummy Tub looks like an average bucket, but it claims to calm and bathe babies, especially those with colic or gas. It's supposed to recreate a womb-like atmosphere, allowing the baby to naturally relax in a fetal position.

"You're just kind of dropping him into the bucket and you feel like what am I doing?" Wyant said. "He loves it. His eyes close. He's totally at peace, then after awhile he starts his cooing, and he starts humming to himself."

Parents who use the Tummy Tub are posting their baby's baths on Youtube. You can see how the tub has a special stand. The company says the bucket is made out of environmentally friendly materials. They also claim that it can keep water warmer longer. Wyant says her son Jack certainly seems to like it. "From the moment we put him in, he's totally calm. He's never cried once in it."

The Tummy Tub costs about $45, which at first, seemed like a lot to Wyant. "Especially to my husband," she said. "He was like, 'What's this? This is a bucket.' I don't know. there's some kind of magic in that bucket."

Although it seems obvious, the Tummy Tub should only be used under supervision and after reading the instructions, and you should not try to substitute any-old household bucket.

The Tummy Tub is recommended for children up to 3 years old, or 35 pounds.

Is Tummy Tub safe?
Yes! How do I hold my baby in the Tummy Tub?
In the "sitting" position the rounded shape of the Tummy Tub baby bath tub helps to support your baby.  You only need to support your baby's head under the chin.  The advantage is that you always have one free hand to wash and comfort your baby.  In the "floating" position you have one hand under your baby's chin, the other at the back of the head or you can place both your hands under your baby's armpits.

How much water should I use in the Tummy Tub?
You decide on how much water you need to bath your baby.  The water level markings on the Tummy Tub are intended only as a guide, as not every baby is the same size.  However, in the first few weeks after birth it is important that there is sufficient water to cover your baby's shoulders during his or her baby bath.  This will ensure your baby does not get cold in the Tummy Tub baby bath tub.

Why can I not use a household bucket?
A household bucket is not designed, and the overall shape is not suitable, for bathing babies safely. Normal buckets don’t have an anti-skid bottom.

• The bottom is not curved like the tummy tub, and therefore does not give the baby any support. 
• Babies discover their new world by touching with their hands and tasting with their mouths. The pigments in plastic buckets will most likely contain toxic elements, as normal buckets aren’t meant for bathing babies.

• The handle of the bucket can easily hurt the fingers of the baby. It also brings an extra risk, as an older brother or sister could, by holding it, pull the bucket from the table. 
• Normal buckets are too low and narrow and the children can’t stay warm.
• Using a bigger bucket doesn’t give the child the support and a comfortable sitting position like the Tummy Tub does. 
• A normal bucket would never have the TÜV and BSI approval for baby bathing like the Tummy Tub baby bath tub has.

Yes, the original The Tummy Tub is uniquely designed to make your newborn feel secure when having his or her baby bath.
